If you’re a college student or the parent of a college student and are looking for a credit card that you can use without too many hoops to jump through, the Wells Fargo Cash Back College Card might be one to consider. Since you can’t own a credit card until you’re 18 and probably won’t qualify for too many major credit cards out there, this credit card is a good place to start if you’re a Wells Fargo customer. It’s a good card to use for building up good credit history and demonstrating that you can make payments on time.

Benefits From Using The Cash Back College Card

The Wells Fargo Cash Back College Card comes with several benefits that make it ideal for first time credit card applicants. There are no annual or monthly fees to use this card, and you don’t start accruing annual percentage rates until at least 6 months in. Also, as its name implies it is a cash back rewards card that gives you a small percentage of cash back in your own wallet when you use it to buy gas, groceries or prescription drugs at various locations. You can also use it with your Wells Fargo checking account for overdraft protection if you qualify, and you can even link it if you have a mobile phone with mobile pay options enabled. And you can even signup for various insurance plans such as roadside assistance and rental car accident coverage.

Be Aware Of Fees

Like all other credit cards, you do have to watch out for various fees and other catches. Once your 6 months of no APR expire, you could get charged anywhere from 11.65% to 21.65% depending on the payments you’ve made thus far. You also incur fees for using overdraft protection up to $20, fees for transferring balances, and for cash advances. You also want to make sure your payments made on the credit card don’t get returned or you’ll be charged $37 per returned payment.

Overall this credit card is pretty straightforward and doesn’t come with too many surprises. The line of credit you start out with varies depending on any previous credit history or monthly income that is reviewed. It’s usually not too hard to get accepted for this card even if you’ve been rejected for other cards. Bottom line, this card is more suited for beginning credit card users as opposed to people looking for a higher credit line.
